Family dentists typically offer a wide range of services, addressing oral health, cosmetic and functional concerns. This review highlights the services that you can expect your local family dentist to offer you and your family. 

Reviewing common family dentistry treatment options

The most notable areas of focus for family dentists include diagnostic services, preventive dentistry, restorative dentistry, and cosmetic treatments. Many also offer orthodontic care, along with educating all their patients on the ways that they can keep healthy smiles after their visits.

Diagnostic services

Diagnostic dental services include oral exams, dental X-rays, oral cancer screenings, and more. Preventive dentistry

Professional, in-office teeth whitening is also a common cosmetic dentistry procedure that family dentists offer.

Some family dentists also offer orthodontic services. Most commonly, these include braces and clear aligners. These treatment options address teeth misalignments and bite issues (e.g., overbite, underbite, etc.). Improving the alignment of the teeth and jaw can provide a more aesthetically-pleasing appearance and improve oral health and function. 

Educational services

Family dentists also educate patients so they can care for their oral health at home between regular dental visits. This may include advice on brushing techniques, dietary choices, and how to protect teeth during physical activity. This can save the patient money in the long term.
