A light that cures or hardens each layer will then be applied. Once the multilayering process is eventually completed, the composite material will be shaped to the desired result. Any excess material will be trimmed off and then the final restoration will be polished.

Treatment time

Several aspects may affect how long it takes to get a filling. Most times, a filling takes an hour or less. A simple filling may take only 20 minutes whereas a larger filling or multiple fillings can take more time. Depending on the materials used, it could also take longer, or a second visit may be necessary. For example, composite resin material that is layered into the tooth usually takes more time, but it is completed in a single visit. Sometimes, dentists can perform two or more fillings in one visit as long as they are not too complex.
