The Important Role Dental Crowns Play at our Miami Dental Office

Dental crowns play a diverse and important role in our Miami dental office.  If you think of a mouth full of metal when you hear the word “crown” – think again.  This is a versatile solution that can be used in many ways to both protect your tooth and to improve the way that it looks.  As a result, it is being used to solve a variety of dental challenges in our Miami dental office and elsewhere.  If you do not like the way that your smile looks, we invite you to give us a call and learn how crowns are one of the ways that we can improve it.

Dental Crowns Protect Your Teeth

If you are suddenly suffering from sensitivity now that you are older, it could be because the enamel has eroded from your teeth. This is normal and typically happens due to the food that you eat, brushing too aggressively, a lack of dental care or simply old age.  When it happens, eating your favorite ice cream can become uncomfortable, as can eating a bowl of hot soup.  To protect your teeth and eliminate the sensitivity, we can place dental crowns around them.  A crown is a cap that completely covers the exposed areas of your tooth.  This way nothing can touch it directly.  For this reason, we frequently use crowns to restore and protect teeth that have been cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged in an accident.  Once a crown is secure, you can bite down with force and eat your favorite foods without worrying about sensitivity, irritation, or further damaging your tooth.

Dental Crowns in Cosmetic Dentistry

The cosmetic applications for crowns are vast.  Many of our patients will take a negative event like their teeth being cracked and use it to improve their smile by having dental crowns placed on the damaged teeth and any other teeth that are not looking the way that they want.  A crown is made to match your surrounding teeth exactly so it can be used to cover dark stains on the teeth, close gaps in between them and even to change the overall size and shape of teeth.  In some cases, a crown can even straighten your teeth.  If there is something that you do not like about your smile, let us know.  There is a very good chance that we can correct it in a way that is natural looking and makes your smile appear to be truly beautiful.

Simultaneously, if you are missing any of your teeth, we can use dental crowns to serve as anchors for a bridge that will replace the missing tooth or teeth.  The crowns are durable enough to hold the bridge in place so that your tooth replacement will remain securely in your mouth.  This natural solution works far better than dentures, and you will love the ability to eat all of your favorite foods again.  You can care for crowns like natural teeth so they are a fantastic solution that will last for years to come.
