Reasons for a Full Mouth Reconstruction

If you severely damage your teeth, jaw, or face, you may be in need of a full mouth reconstruction. Typically, this involves numerous procedures and even oral surgery. However, once done, you will gain back the full use of your mouth. If you are unsure of whether or not you require this level of care, read some of the common reasons that patients visit us for this procedure.

You may need a full mouth reconstruction if:

#1. You have been in an accident

One of the most common reasons for people needing a full mouth reconstruction is that they have been in an accident. For example, if a patient is in a car accident and suffers facial trauma, it is highly possible that the patient also suffers from broken bones in face and jaw. The patient may even have lost, cracked, or chipped a tooth. This creates a situation where extensive work is necessary in order to restore the functionality and appearance of the patient's face and smile.

#2. Your jaw has been broken

If a patient breaks the jaw, it is likely that the patient damaged some teeth as well. At this point, the patient may need a full mouth reconstruction to fix the jaw and any of the displaced teeth.

#3. Several of your teeth have fallen out

After losing many teeth, it will become necessary for the patient to replace the teeth as quickly as possible. While it is certainly possible for the patient to do so using removable dentures, this is a temporary solution and will not restore the full functionality of the natural teeth. We can do so by giving the patient dental implants. With an implanted tooth, the patient receives the benefit of a new root in addition to the visible tooth. This will help preserve the strength of your jawbone while giving you back a fully functional smile.

#4. You have suffered from extensive decay and gum disease

Typically, we can treat gum disease and tooth decay as isolated instances. However, if one's oral health has reached the point where the teeth are in very bad condition, then the patient may need to have numerous procedures over time. For example, the patient may need to have a gum graft and dental implants.
